In a one-shot retelling/alternate ending of My Bloody Valentine 5X14, (the episode featuring Famine where Sam craves demon blood and Castiel's vessel craves red meat) Dean experiences a different kind of starvation. His desire is not for the usual vices but for something more intimate—he finds himself overwhelmingly craving Castiel.

Summary
When Dean is given the chance to rent out a cabin in the woods for two weeks he nearly declines, but he's newly single and doesn't really know what he's doing with his life, so what has he got to lose. Even if the woods are supposedly haunted.
When he comes across an eerily intelligent crow that keeps on watching him he decides he's going to befriend it, as a good story for his friend Charlie back home, but he's got no idea that he's about to discover that both the crow and the woods are hiding a big secret!

Summary
Cas and Kevin have been living in the bunker for a few weeks post-angels-falling when Dean realizes it's time for him to go off his suppressants and have his first heat in a few years.
His suppressants weren't just keeping him from going into heat - he was on the extra-strength kind, the kind that let him pass for a beta if people aren't paying close attention and deaden his own sense of smell.
Which means that when he goes off of them, he and Castiel get a full dose of each other's scents for the very first time.

Angels do not have genders, primary or secondary. As a non-reproductive species, they have no need for something as human and pedantic as sexes. Consequently, Castiel has never had a rut in his life.
But Castiel isn’t an angel anymore.
