Peter picked up the remote for the large display screen at the front of the room, clicking it on. “Meet Daniel Bennet,” he announced, turning to read off of the screen. “Vanished from Elizabeth, New Jersey. He was in Witness Protection at the time under the name Danny Brooks.”
“Why weren’t his prints on file if he was in Witness Protection?”
Peter pressed the remote in his hand, bringing up a picture of James Bennet. “James Bennet. He was a cop in St. Louis. Allegedly shot his wife Virginia before fleeing the scene. They kept Daniel and his guardian’s prints out of the system because Bennet still had friends in high places.”

Summary
If Peter were to imagine a young version of Neal, he'd picture a scrappy kid with a satisfied smirk fixed permanently on his face. But when Neal gets de-aged to a pre-double digit age, the kid he meets isn't anything like he could have expected; Danny Brooks is quiet until he's not, whip-smart of things he shouldn't know, and paranoid as hell. It's all Peter can do to treat the kid with the kindness he should have received the first time around.
Well, the kindness Peter thinks he should have received, anyway. He's not perfect, but goddamn, he's trying.
