Caitlyn was focused on her work. Her fingers massaged the ointment onto a particularly dark bruise. “Yes. I assume so.”
Vi was overwhelmed with too many thoughts at once, but the most prevalent was, “And that turns you on?”
Caitlyn’s lips curled. “Among other things.”
“And you’ve… thought about us being married for a long time?”
Caitlyn fixed Vi with a serious stare. “If you’re surprised at that, darling, then I’ve been loving you wrong.”

Vi nodded absently, her gaze floating from Caitlyn’s eyes to the couch, where she and Vi had first - helped. Caitlyn followed her gaze, checking to see if anything was there, seeing nothing.
Caitlyn met Vi’s eyes, and Vi had a half smile, a little you-caught-me shrug, something satisfied and wistful on her expression. It tugged at Caitlyn’s gut, that clear sign of remembrance.
“You should come,” Caitlyn blurted.
Vi’s eyebrows lifted. “To your game?”
Caitlyn nodded. “If you want to, I mean. It’d be cool if you came - it’d be fun. For you. Should be a pretty good game - or so I’m told. If you’re free - no real pressure.”
She was spared more blabbering by Vi shrugging and saying, “sure.”
“Really?” Caitlyn asked, eyes wide.
“I mean - yeah. Sounds fun. I never really got into the college rivalry stuff, but I’m always available to watch athletic women.”

When Vi entered The Last Drop, Vander immediately spotted her and gestured for her to come to the bartop.
"Take a seat, kiddo. Want me to get ya a drink?"
Vi thinks she shook her head in refusal- she's not quite sure, she was far too distracted by the fact that... well, nearly every person she cared about was right in front of her.
Which was good, now was the perfect time to break the news, get everyone caught up in one fell swoop. But she couldn't.
Mylo, Claggor, Ekko, Dad... Powder. These were the people she was supposed to look after. For years, the thing that got her up in the morning- her one fucking purpose in life- was her promise to keep them all safe, no matter the cost.
How was she supposed to tell them that she'd be abandoning them? Because soon, two other people were going to need her even more?

Caitlyn cuts her off with another kiss.
This one is slower. More certain.When she pulls away, she speaks against Vi’s lips. "I already know."
Vi exhales, shaky. "Cait—"
"I already know," Caitlyn repeats, firmer this time. "I chose you, Vi. Every damn time. And I’ll keep choosing you, no matter how hard you try to push me away."

The first time Vi saw Caitlyn Kiramman in real life, she thought, Damn. Even the devil wouldn’t look this good in a suit.
Caitlyn wasn’t just rich—she was old money rich, the kind of wealth that dripped from the walls of penthouse offices and drowned people in debt just for looking at it wrong. She had the posture of a queen, the cold blue eyes of a predator, and a reputation so clean it reeked of expensive PR.
Which is why it was so damn funny when a year later someone had hired Vi to fix a problem for her.
Vi was a professional fixer—the kind people called when they had a problem too ugly for lawyers, too illegal for PR firms, and too dangerous to ignore. Or when they needed to destroy someone. Vi is nothing if not versatile.
So when a faceless client wired half a million into her account and sent her an anonymous file labeled "KIRAMMAN - URGENT", she was expecting something juicy.
And damn, did it deliver.
Because Vi was damn good at her job and give her whisper and she would figure out your entire biography.
And Caitlyn Kiramman was no different.

Huh?” To her credit, Cait doesn’t respond, just breathes hard and resists the need to grind, to move.
Vi huffs out a laugh. “Got it right, didn’t I? And do you know how I know?”
Cait scoffs, but her eye is open wide, earnest, and her lips drop into a soft o. Vi realizes that no, she doesn’t know. So she tilts her chin up, whispers lowly into Cait’s ear.
“Because we both know that if you didn’t want me to haul you over my shoulder, you would have cuffed my wrists with my belt.”

As Vi rubs a dry towel too harshly over her face, she mumbles into it the same thing she said before. “I didn’t know I could do that.”
Cait’s chest is warm again for a new reason, and then all of her is warm. Vi is still gripping the towel, so Cait tries to counteract her tension with a soft kiss to her forehead. “You can do it again,” she whispers against Vi’s skin. “If you’d like to.” Vi’s breathing catches, and Cait thinks she feels a slight nod. Maybe.

The piano in the Kiramman estate hasn’t been touched since Caitlyn was young. Then, she was too short to reach the pedals, and the piano sitting in front of her felt larger than life.
Her mother made her take lessons. It was the proper thing for any child of a notable family to do, so Caitlyn started when she was four and learned the piano twice a week.
The last time she played, it was for a few of her mother’s friends just before she quit her lessons. She remembers the feeling of being watched, every note scrutinized, and how she grit her teeth when her pinkie slipped from the A flat to G.
That had been the final straw. That night at dinner, she took a deep breath, asked her mother to quit, and forgot about the piano’s existence.
Until now.
She doesn’t really know why she cares about it now.
