Summary
“Rogue, honey. I found you.” The Doctor dropped to their knees in front of Rogue as if they were praying at an altar. When Rogue’s eyes opened, tears formed in them that made them shine like the hottest of stars.
“Are you really here this time?” he could only manage a raspy whisper, but the implication could’ve shattered the Doctor’s hearts. Tears ran down his face, following a pattern that was already long since created in the dust.
“Oh, Rogue… Yes, I’m really here. I can get you to safety.” The Doctor cupped his face with their hand and wiped away a tear. “I promise.”

"Find me!", he said, knowing that there was no chance of that. Still, he gave himself that little scrap of delusional hope. He allowed himself this fantasy, as the ground gave out beneath his feet.
What he hadn't accounted for, was Ruby grabbing his hand, just as the void sucked him down. It all happened so fast, Rogue didn't even have a moment to process what was happening before he sucked Ruby down with him. The last thing he heard was her scream and the doctor's voice yelling: "No!"

Or, Rogue and Ruby get trapped in a barren dimension together and have to survive in the hopes of the doctor finding them.
