Summary
He comes in with a handkerchief pulled over his face and shoves a gun in Pete’s direction.
“Open the register,” he says while the gas station bell is still ringing his entrance. Very impressive, Pete thinks. It’s nice to know people still have a sense of urgency around here.
or, Pete gets held up.

Summary
"Kyoko, what the fuck."
"It's not my fault, okay?!" Oh please. Not having access to good hygiene supplies is one thing, but to the point of leaving your hair unwashed for years is an entirely different ordeal.
"You couldn't have cleaned your hair once over the course of, say, seven years?"
"I didn't have the money for no fancy shampoo or conditioner! I was raised by a male preacher, I don't know the slightest thing about haircare!”
•—————————•
Sayaka finds out that Kyoko has a horrible relationship with her hair and decides to fix it for her. There's a reason she does.

Summary
It feels stupid, throwing pebbles up at Kris’s window. Like something from some lame old rom-com.
Maybe it is stupid, definitely is, but shitty music is blasting from the living room, and there’s no way Kris could sleep through that. And.
Susie doesn’t, exactly, want to go home tonight.
(Kris and Susie and a slight moment of respite.)

Summary
“Susie,” Kris’s voice deadpans from the other end of the line, “if you don’t call me back in five minutes, I’m killing myself.”
Noelle stares.
Susie coughs. “They, uh. They don’t mean that.”
Susie makes her first friend. Somehow, they're even more insane than she is.

Summary
“I’ve, um, been dreaming.” She closes her eyes because it’s easier to ignore Mami and Homura’s stares. “In, in my dream I’m still in bed, but I-I’m not alone, Sayaka’s next to me but she’s not breathing, she’s—”
She’s pale and cold and pretty in the same way the stained glass windows of Kyoko’s father’s church are pretty and she’s lying so still she can’t be anything but dead. But in her dream Kyoko still curls around her, soul gem in hand, keeping her warm, keeping her safe—
“—she’s dead, I didn’t even know her that well and she’s dead and in my dream I’m so, I’m scared that there’s nothing I can do.” She opens her eyes. “But there really is nothing I can do. She’s already gone, and we left her there.” She stares hard at her hands. “We weren’t really even friends.”

Summary
"It didn’t have to mean anything. It didn’t. Not when Susie reassured Kris last night that obviously if she went to the festival, they would be with her too. Not when Susie seemed confused at Noelle’s shy reaction to her question.
But they noticed that nervous tone of voice that Susie had asked Noelle with, that flustered look on her face. One she didn’t have when she was talking to Kris."

or, kris watches susie and noelle and sits in their feelings.

Summary
“You’ll break me,” Mizi says. “I’ll break you. We break each other and kiss away the tears that form because the ache is all we know.”
“But why?” Sua looks to her. The world around them creeps towards dawn and the flowers sway gently, beautiful for all eternity. “Why must we?”
Mizi circles MALACHITE SUNBIRD with her finger and murmurs, “You’ll leave me, Sua. You always will. That’s just how we are.”
The protest in her throat dies like the faint embers of used-up coal and Sua reels in her bed, head throbbing. Her phone blares and lights up when she smacks it. 37 HOURS LEFT.
Or, Mizi and Sua only have 48 hours and 32 minutes left to live.
(The ethos? Eating is hard, dreams are so cruel when they dangle what you don’t have in front of you via Tantalus’ grove, and never trust another goddamn faggot.)
