Summary
There was this thing inside him, and it was an emotion, but it was thrashing and resisted him.
You are the one resisting. Snape cast the intruding voice so forcefully to the back of his mind he was surprised it didn't protest. But yes. Yes he had to resist it, because to feel like Hermione Granger was the sole person in the world who seemed to understand him - to want to understand him - to feel that and be even a little desiring of it, was unacceptable. Finally under the canopy of the trees at the edge of the forest, Snape turned his head towards the sky. The bare branches swayed gently, strangely gently given the ferocity of the wind.
Unacceptable
~*~When Hermione is inducted into the Order of the Phoenix at the beginning of her fifth year, she finds herself working closely beside her Potions Professor. As the prospect of a Wizarding war, the stress of her academic life, and straining friendships threaten to overwhelm her, the bond that forms between her and Severus Snape becomes her lifeline.

Summary
She pressed her lips together and pushed away from the tree, bringing herself less than a foot from him. “I want you to look at me and feel selfish.”
Her words rang in his head. Snape felt them committing themselves to his memory almost against his will. He had always thought one needed to be beautiful to experience beautiful things, but whatever warmth she looked at him with was at odds with that belief. She seemed to have addressed that thought directly.
~*~As the war ramps up and Lord Voldemort accrues more and more strength, both Severus and Hermione often times feel that the bond that has formed between them is a fragile one. As they grow closer and discover more about their connection, they begin to carve out their own path in a conflict that has been dictated by others for so long.
