The human had piercing, violet eyes. That was all Saps could see for a few seconds, as he stared at them, felt them staring back, and all he could see was black hair and a gold-lined collar and bright violet boring into his soul.
Then his vision managed to widen, and Saps took in their smart black coat, their shirts, their shiny boots and the golden crests on his lapel. And their expression. Fascination, like a burning ember, fierce and blistering and rich.
I fell for the hype. Avian ambassador Saps falling way too hard for human second-in-command Flux, while being abused by his people.
