Summary
After the Civil War with Captain America, Tony is left permanently damaged. With the reactor intact, it had nearly killed him, and Steve had left him to die there.

The shield slams down on his chest and Tony feels the impact before he even hears it. Agony rips through him so violently it steals every ounce of air from his lungs. The arc reactor is forced back into his chest, too deep now. Its whirring too fast and burning too hot; destroying the tissues underneath it and ripping apart the metal hollow meant to keep it from ripping into his organs.
He's dying.
