“Ah - I believe I can find that out for you--” Lord Xu is saying, already waving over his head servant, and Shen Jiu is so irritated that the man just seems to assume that Shen Jiu can’t answer for himself like he’s a dog or some other beast that he speaks up.
“A slave,” he answers, and Yue Qingyuan nods as if this isn’t surprising.
Then he turns towards Lord Xu and he says, “I will buy him.”

Comical and horrific at the same time, because imagine you are bought by a rich man who says you are now free. But he still brings you back to his house. There is no alternative given, it is just expected that you still accompany that unnerving man who stares at you with emotions you've never known. You do know lust and infatuation, and it's the best approximation you have to what feelings that man has to you; so you can only assume this is some perverted roleplay of hero jumping in to rescue an unfortunate soul. It is a torturous illusion of all you've ever wanted and more than you dared dream, you don't want it to end but knowing the expected repayment terrifies you to the point of wishing it to.
And there's that man, gay as can be. He found a loved one in their next life, and he shall do all he can to make sure they experience all that they desired but never could in the previous life. He is so filled with glee that he forgets the loved one remembers nothing of their past life, so he comes off as a very terrifying creep.
That's this story, I also love QQQ in this fic. Will be recommending to unsuspecting friends, mostly.
