"I know... I know... I just..." He sighed, shaking his head as he looked away. "I want it to work." He bit his lip, heart aching a bit. "I-I want to like it..." Eddie looked back at Shannon, and she softened, smiling softly.
"I know, Eddie." She squeezed his hand. "You've got this, though, okay? I mean... I know you don't really know this Chimney guy outside of basketball, but he wouldn't set you up with an asshole, would he?"
"No... I uh... I set myself up with assholes..." Eddie laughed bitterly, turning to the table to grab his keys and wallet.
"Edmundo." Shannon scolded, expression hardening. "C'mon now... we talked about this. Tommy was not your fault. He's a narcissist, and he manipulated you into seeing what he wanted you to see, okay? It's not your fault."
