Summary
It began, as so many dreadful things do, at a party.
Elizabeth Bennet’s first impression of Fitzwilliam Darcy is… unfavourable. Her second and third impressions are hardly any better. He’s aloof and haughty and casually insulting, yet she keeps catching glimpses of something deeper in his character. Which is the only possible explanation for why she can't seem to get him out of her head.
Free-spirited artist Elizabeth is everything Darcy disapproves of, yet he finds himself captivated by her... and quite desperately attracted. Completely self-serving, smutty AU of “Hunsford Tale”.
What if a slightly different Heidi had ended up in the Pride and Prejudice universe, but under completely different circumstances and two years ahead of time. This Heidi is a little more… fluid than the original Heidi, as I remain vague about her background and might have (for the story) changed a bit of her past for flavor (i.e. she didn’t suffer the tragedy of a cheating fiancé, a lost job, rather than her mother being the obsessed one Heidi knows all the things about PnP) and the gentlemen cousins are not quite so gentlemanly as they are normally portrayed. They will be, for the most part, completely out of character.

Summary
I adored this book, but the ending was very hard to digest. I have decided to write my own (happy) ending, because a love like Elio’s and Oliver’s deserves a happy ending with a vengeance.
I have added more time-related references, but kept political ones to an absolute minimum. It’s more about music, food and the feel of the era.
You will see that at some point the characters go to San Francisco. That part is only referred to, because I have never been there so I didn’t want to write rubbish. I also decided that Vimini should live, because I love her :)
The story is narrated, like the novel, from Elio’s POV.
There is quite a lot of explicit sex, but it’s loving and always consensual. If you do not enjoy M/M sex, please do not read the story (or the original book).Aciman is a genius and I am not, so please forgive my inadequacy. It is all intended as homage to a book I loved rather than an attempt to improve on it.
Last but not least: I have mixed the book’s and film’s references, but I have only seen the trailer as the film is not out yet. If you have seen it, please forgive the errors. I wanted to publish my story before I could be influenced by Guadagnino’s masterpiece.

This was written around the time the fandom fell into a deep dark depression due to Sam attending a certain wedding with a certain someone. It was suggested at some point that maybe Sam was in New Orleans with Graham. Maybe he had gone to Louisiana. Maybe someone met him there...
I know a lot of people post on here boasting "this is my first fan fic!" and then post this beautiful prose perhaps ghost written by a bronte sister or something. This is not one of those times. I'm definitely in the "desperately turning over logs in search of a writing voice" phase of writing where I have to be at least two glasses deep before even opening the word doc. Be gentle.
Oh, and if you haven't clicked away at this point (CONGRATS!!! You've won a crappy fan fic!) I've changed the names of our OTP's (maybe) significant others. It'll be cheap and obvious, but it'll help me sleep at night.

A modern AU wherein Darcy has recently been elected to the House of Commons, Elizabeth is in the civil service, and unsusprisingly, there is conflict.
Slight whiffs of both 'The Thick Of It' and 'Yes Minister'; and an eventual 'Darcy exiting the lake in a wet white shirt' scene, because let's be honest, that's all anyone is in this for.Additional story and relationship tags as the story progresses. Rating due to a base level of swearing which could only be described as 'Australian'. Also because there might be some lemons later on.
Not on hiatus, I'm just really bad at updating.
