Namjoon gets in his own head a lot. Taehyung doesn’t have these kind of hang-ups, never has to stop and think, just follows his gut. And Namjoon knows this about Taehyung, intellectually, but sometimes it takes him by surprise.
Sometimes, they are approximately one-quarter into foreplay, by Namjoon’s calculations, and Taehyung says, “Hyung,” while Namjoon is kissing his neck and when Namjoon picks his head up to look at him, Taehyung says, “I think I want you to choke me.”
And Namjoon has to pull away, has to sit up as he looks at Taehyung and says, “I’m sorry, what?”

So when, at the age of fifteen, he looks at himself in the mirror and says, so seriously you’d think he’s speaking about death and maybe he is, “you will not, cannot, and must not continue to love Kim Namjoon,” he’s a little bit perturbed but he knows it’s for the best.
(Or, Jungkook spends four years loving Kim Namjoon, and convinces himself he doesn't need to let Namjoon know. He does.)
