Although, Bashir often wondered later, if this had been planned, for much longer. If the trap in which he had now become so hopelessly ensnared had been set months before. Slowly closing around him for longer than he knew. Perhaps the whole idea behind sharing book recommendations had been building to this. A long game, when Garak said, “Doctor, please, would you explain something to me?”
An appeal to intellectual vanity. And Bashir can’t resist that. Can he?
“Of course, Garak,” he says, “Anything for a friend.”
