Summary

Summary
Taking course over fourteen years:
In 2004, Ilya is sent to live with his aunt and uncle in Ottawa after his father can't handle Ilya's emotions regarding the loss of his mother. It's fine, he thinks. He's good at hockey and still has a chance to make something of himself if he gets everything right.
Also in 2004, he also meets Shane, who is kind, confusing, and eager to be his friend.
By 2009, they're both drafted into the NHL.
By 2013, Ilya no longer has hockey. His once promising career has been swallowed by an all-consuming drug problem and a haunting memory of the love he had for someone who couldn't possibly want him anymore.
