Summary
Yuna was hefting every single picture she had taken of Shane from birth right through to last year in several leather bound picture albums into the kitchen. He was positive that there was pictures in there from their wedding last summer in this pile. She set them down on the table with a loud thud.
“Mooom,” Shane groaned. He thunked his forehead onto the table in front of him. Was she seriously going to put him through this humiliation ritual?
Ilya furrowed his brow, “What is this?” he asked Shane.
“Only every single picture my mom has ever taken of me in my life and now she’s going to make you sit here and look at them.”
Ilya stood up and moved across the table to sit directly next to Yuna and her mountain of photos.
“Start when he was a baby, please.”

Yuna pulls out all the baby pictures she has of Shane to show Ilya after dinner one night. Predictably, Ilya cannot handle the adorableness and Shane just wants to die of embarrassment. -

Summary
“But it’s Tuesday,” Shane said, staring at the absolutely giant bottle of wine in Ilya’s hand.
Ilya was standing behind the island in the kitchen, holding his prize. A giant bottle of white wine in a clear glass bottle with a label that had a watercolor drawing of a lake with a red canoe on the label. It made him think of the lake at the cottage where he and Shane were currently holed up, enjoying their summer off season.
“Yes. But it’s summer. We’re on vacation. We’re at the cottage. Perfect time to get afternoon wine drunk,” he reasoned, holding the bottle up, making sure Shane saw the perfect watercolor that reminded him of their perfect oasis in the woods.

Ilya convinces Shane to get a little summertime afternoon wine drunk. Silly secrets they've been "keeping" from each other are spilled over a couple glasses of wine. -

“What are you watching?”
Ilya paused his video and finally looked up, “It’s so cute, Shane,” he said, holding his phone against his chest, smiling huge.
“What animal is it this time? And we’re not getting one, whatever it is,” he said, with a small hint of feigned exasperation. Ilya was always angling bringing another animal home, wild or domestic. They had all they could handle with Anya right now.
“It is not an animal this time,” he answered indignantly, “It’s little kids playing hockey.”

Ilya convinces Shane to open up the Game Changers camp to preschoolers. One of the kids mispronounces Ilya’s name and it almost takes Shane out at the knees. Chaos and cuteness ensues, obviously. -

Summary
All things considered, they’d just had a very nice visit with Shane’s parents. Impromptu, yes. Unexpected, fuck yes. Ilya opened his door, let himself in and sank into his seat, feeling more relief than he had in a very, very long time. Shane’s parents knew now. That was a major hurdle. It wasn’t exactly ideal in how it happened, but it happened and everything was ok? It sure felt ok. Nobody was crying anymore. Nobody was mad. Nobody was disappointed.
Shane got in the driver’s seat next to him. He hadn’t said anything yet, but Ilya noticed he looked considerably lighter. Like half the weight of the world had lifted off his shoulders. Like he could breathe a little easier now.

Ilya made him anxious, in a good way, he thought? Or excited. Or nervous. Probably all three. He’d always had trouble differentiating those feelings. They all kinda overlapped and gave him the same swirly feeling in the pit of his stomach. But this time it felt good? It didn’t feel dangerous to him like all the other times. He liked the kind of anxiety Ilya gave him.
Ilya didn’t have anxiety. He was the least anxious person Shane knew. If he ever felt nervous about anything, he never outwardly showed it. He never had to talk himself out of a panic attack. He just always was so calm. Cool. Level headed. Always had a solution for everything. It was exactly the kind of presence Shane needed in his life. Which is exactly how he created his new coping mechanism.
In his head, he called it What Would Ilya Do? Everytime he was faced with a situation he wasn’t sure how he was going to manage, he’d ask himself, WWID? And usually, the answer was either so ridiculous or so cut and dry, he’d figure it out before it was a big issue.
