Cale Henituse was supposed to be a small, uselessly useless, side-villain who only appeared in the first volume. His background story deserved empathy, but he was just an unimportant side character without a recurring appearance.
So when Kim Rok Soo transmigrated into that Cale Henituse, he was like, 'sure, let's do it. Do this and that, then hallelujah slacker life!'

Summary
It happens so fast. One moment Jiang Cheng is reaching out to Wei Wuxian, who’s reaching up for him and in the next his eyes are widening as he’s unbalanced, horror on his face, and he’s falling too fast for Jiang Cheng to catch, though he tries. He catches Suibian, and waits, because Wei Wuxian has to resurface, he has to, and they find the other boy, manage to fish Su She out of the water but he can’t see Wei Wuxian and (and he was wearing purple. White could be seen under water, but purple is the first to fade under water...). Where are you? What are you doing? Come back. He sees Lan Wangji dive into the water holding Bichen, and for the next few minutes, Jiang Cheng hopes. (Lan Wangji surfaces alone, and Jiang Cheng breaks)
Or: Lan Wangji cannot find Wei Wuxian, and they must give him up as dead.
