“Do you know something?” Jonathan asked.
Silence for a few moments, then “I might.” Robin’s face was still unreadable. “Do you know something?”
Jonathan nodded slowly. “I might as well.”
They both looked away again, Jonathan’s mind racing. He swallowed hard, not really sure what else to say as he slowly turned to Robin again. She was doing the same, and they looked away quickly.
The silence was deafening, but the realisation was even louder. Jonathan nearly choked as Robin gasped, and they both leaped to their feet. The desk chair Robin was sitting in rolled away, while Jonathan’s fully fell back as they pointed accusingly at each other.
“You know!” Jonathan blurted out.
“And you know!” Robin shot right back.

Summary
By all measures, Mike is a good alpha. He checks all the boxes, really. Protective without being overbearing, quick to step in when someone’s in trouble, careful but not patronizing. He’s loud and boisterous, sure, but he’s also earnest, and sweet, and so goddamn chivalrous it’s stupid.
It’s all so horribly infuriating, and so infuriatingly endearing.
That’s the thing about instincts. They make everything so confusing. Will knows, rationally, that all of these things are just Mike’s way of being a good friend and packmate. And yet, there’s still a part of him—a decidedly omega part—that relishes in the attention in a way he knows he shouldn’t.
Navigating teenage relationships is hard enough. It's even harder when instincts get involved.

“Awake?”
The voice cut through the quiet, rough with sleep. Mike jumped, heart slamming hard enough to make his chest ache, and nearly slammed the fridge shut on instinct. He turned too fast, breath catching painfully in his throat.
Will stood in the doorway that led into the kitchen, leaning against the frame with his arms crossed loosely over his chest. His hair stuck up at odd angles, dark and unruly, and his eyes were heavy-lidded, unfocused in that half-awake way that made him look younger somehow. Smaller. Like the boy who used to fall asleep on Mike’s shoulder during movie nights without thinking twice.
For a second, Mike forgot how to breathe.

Unfair that Will could look like that, rumpled and real and painfully familiar, and still make something twist low and sharp inside Mike. Unfair that the sight of him awake at night stirred relief and guilt in equal measure. Unfair that his brain betrayed him with thoughts that felt too close, too intimate, skirting a line he refused to acknowledge.
He swallowed, forcing himself to look away, back into the fridge as if leftovers suddenly mattered more than the person who had quietly become the axis of his nights.“Couldn’t sleep.”

The juice container nearly slips from Mike’s hands the moment the truth hits him hard and cold, like a bucket of ice straight to the spine, the hairs on the back of his neck rising unpleasantly. He’s remembering Will.
Not the kitchen Will, not the real-life Will in front of him, but the Will from his dream. Which means it wasn’t an actual nightmare. Not even close.
“Are you okay?” Will asks softly, suddenly right beside him at the fridge.

“Are you sure?” He presses, and it drives Will crazy.
“Yeah.” His voice comes out unsteady, shaken and cracking, but Mike only nods, and while casting him one last concerned glance, throws an arm around his shoulders, leading him over to a seat.
It- he drives Will crazy. He slips onto the terribly uncomfortable plastic chair and tugs off his coat, the thought echoing in his brain, eyes shifting from place to place. The table, Mike, the floor, Mike, his hands as they fiddle to unwrap his scarf, Mike as he huffs out a laugh and reaches to help him with the woolly accessory. Mike’s smiling face. Mike’s deep brown eyes. Mike, Mike, Mike.
December 15th, 1984. The Snowball. Will thinks that there's nothing worse that he could be doing tonight, and he'd rather shrivel up and die than stare at Mike dancing with Eleven for hours on end. Turns out he's the one dancing with Mike, and that school dances aren't so bad after all.

Totally normal. Totally Will. Mike could handle that.
But then it… spiralled.
“Your hair looks good today,” Will said one morning in the kitchen while trying (and failing) to pour cereal without spilling half the box.

It's like Will's body moves before he can even process what he’s moving to, like his senses know when he’s near and pull him there before he can realize what he’s doing. His former well gripped want is bleeding though his fingers. He feels as if everyone can see it in the way he blinks, can smell the desire pooling out of his pores.
“—definitely overreacting, I mean, he’s as oblivious as they come!” Robin’s voice cuts through his thoughts.
“I don't know... I think even Steve could have picked up on what was going on in my head,” he squeezes his eyes shut at the onslaught of aftershock anxiety rushing back at the memory.
“I whimpered, Robin!” he pulls his hands to cover his face, to try to ground himself.
“You’re probably right... Steve could have picked up on what was going on,” she’s facing him on the couch, her knees leaning further to press up against his legs as she moves further into his space. “But Mike wouldn’t know sexual electricity if it was shooting from his own dick.”
OR: Will's been in love with Mike Wheeler since before he can remember, it was bound to slip out at some point.
