It had taken years. Their marriage. To become whatever this arrangement had, in time, become. Aerion had learned to live with it. To swallow his pride. To accept defeat. To eventually love Duncan with all his heart and soul. To love his children so fully they would never know what it was to want for it.

Dunk is sent to retrieve Aerion Targaryen from his exile with one clear mission: make sure the prince returns home.
He expects to find the same cruel, sadistic prince who nearly killed him at the Trial of Seven. He expects scorn, sarcasm, and malice. Instead, he finds an Aerion who is strangely quiet, observant, and, disturbingly... kind.
