    "You don't know what you're talking about," Suguru says dismissively, his voice laced with quiet indifference and a hint of irritation. The deliberate clink of books and pens echoes in the stillness, a subtle reminder of the distance he’s putting between them. His gaze flickers toward Satoru. "And get off my desk."

    Satoru’s lips curl into a smug smile as he rolls his tongue over the lollipop hanging lazily from his mouth. Unbothered, his eyes sparkle with mischief. "Or what, Professor?"

    OR

    Gojo Satoru knew nothing about love when he started playing his game. He knew nothing of its gifts and its sorrows and its consequences. There were only two things that he was sure about: for one, he was obsessed with space, and for another, he wanted Geto Suguru to notice him.

    The rest, all of the things that Satoru wasn't prepared for, came long after he began to play.

    If he could unzip the body he is trapped in and step out of it, he would abandon this corpse of a body in a heartbeat. If he could live as a simplified version of himself, he would condense himself into a swirling orb of gold and black that didn’t have flesh to feel the touch of the world around it. If he could just stop existing without the troublesomeness of it all, without the accompanying grieving and bloody mess and everything else, he would.

    There is a difference between wanting to die and not wanting to live.

    “Satoru?” The word rings, fuzzy in his ears as it whines like tinnitus, familiar and heart stopping.

    ‘I’m dead.’ He can’t even hear his own thoughts over the loudness of the world, staggering where he stands, eyes still fixated on the sky, on the sun. ‘I’m dead, I died, I felt my heart stop, this can’t be, it can’t-’

    “Hey,” it comes again, a little more urgent than before, a little closer, another hammer to his ears and all the noise shrieking behind his eyes. He recoils hard enough to go stumbling as a hand reaches for him, covered in flesh rather than empty bone, tan and recognizable. Unbelievable.

    There’s something wet trickling from his nose. Bile stings on the back of his tongue. The words dissolve into the rest of the white noise as he stares up at the blue of the sky, and tries to remember if he’d ever had a hallucination as bright as this.

    ‘I have to be dead,’ he thinks. Somehow, he isn’t.

    Or: Gojo Satoru goes back in time. He makes a couple of changes for the better.

    Suguru can’t feel the cold metal in his hands, but he knows that it’s there. He was the one who grabbed it. It’s a tiny victory, miniscule in the grand scheme of what he needs to do. But he holds onto it.

    Or, Getou is the one who frees Gojo and what happens afterwards.
