They have escaped Merrick, they have put as much distance as possible between them and there, and they have cut Booker loose to fend on his own and give a long, long look at himself and his actions. They’re safe.
In theory, all’s that left to do is rest, wait for the fear and anger lingering in his system to fade away. But Joe knows he and Nicky need to address something, just the two of them, before they can do that.

Summary
He found himself hesitantly reaching out to touch Nico’s hand. Not hold it, just touch it. He didn’t know if he meant to comfort him, comfort himself, or whether there was any difference at all at this point. A sign of sympathy, of partnership, between two men who faced the same void.
He was pointedly looking at the fire so he couldn’t tell how Nico reacted to it, but the man wasn’t pulling away, so he assumed it was okay.
He knew it wasn’t okay, none of it. But right now he wanted to believe that, with this not-quite-stranger at his side, it might eventually be.
It takes them about a year to fall in love, a bit longer to figure it out, and a few centuries to do anything about it.

Summary
In a sense, Rick guesses that it’s his fault that Negan’s last relationship went to shit. It was never his intention, for sure, but he understood why Negan might look at it differently. He’s more than happy that the man doesn’t blame him, but still, that doesn’t quite justify Negan going from there to outright asking him out on a date.
Negan can’t have been thinking of him all this time, too, can he? This must be something new. But new or not, Rick knows that any doubt - and perhaps better judgement - he has is gonna fly right out the window. Of course he’s gonna say yes.

You find your youngest son in the marshes up to his knees when he’s eight, up to his thighs when he’s ten. You weep in the night for him each time, tears silently streaming down your face as your husband sleeps next to you, blissfully unaware.
When your son is a lanky thirteen, you find him up to his waist. It takes an hour before his dull eyes clear and sparkle like they’re supposed to.
That night, when the moon is full and high in the sky, you slip out of bed and walk to the edge of the marsh to run your hands through the wild rushes.
“Please,” you ask aloud. “Please,” you beg. “He’s my dear, sweet boy, please don’t take him.”
The night is still and calm as you hold your breath and wait. When the wind finally stirs, it whispers “ras el-’alqa.”
You fall to your knees and weep.

Hartenstraat AU
After a life-threatening accident derails his life, Nicky pursues his original dream of being an illustrator. But that, alongside adjusting to civilian life, almost proves too difficult until Nile suggests he design the logo for The Aubergenie, a bakery co-owned by Sébastien and Joe.
In between a bad first impression and a second chance, Nicky unwittingly saves Joe’s daughter. Suddenly, he finds himself a part of their lives, falling in love with them both as he works on the logo and a story inspired by them—and counting down til this fantasy falls apart.
Despite their connection being too good to be true, various struggles, worries and expectations culminate in a heart-breaking misunderstanding that threatens to divide them before they can truly be together.
Will they be able to salvage what they had, or had they burned too bright to last?

So it is a surprise when he finds himself being shoved into a chair, and a ruddy, round-faced Venetian priest grabbing him by the shoulders, and bellowing at him in ecclesiastical Latin:
“Where is the lamp?”
Twenty-five years ago, Yusuf told Nicolò an old folk tale about a fisherman and a djinnī trapped in an oil lamp. Then they parted ways at Alexandria, leaving Yusuf heartbroken.
Now, as Tyre is captured by the Venetians after a long siege, Yusuf finds himself imprisoned in a tower by the sea for taking a stand. But who's been spreading rumours about an old oil lamp that belonged to Saint Nicholas?
