Dabi has hated his birthday for so long. Since he was deemed a failure by his father, and especially after his coma, he never celebrated it. Why would he? No one ever showed him love or acceptance. Born in the wrong body, he was always discriminated. Called weak, and called a freak, his revenge was the only thing that mattered- his birthday didn't.
However, he remembers it actually is his birthday at last, but only after joining the LOV. They accept him... but don't know the full truth. The only reason why he doesn't tell them he's trans, is due to Tomura. His crush on the LOV leader was obvious... and obviously reciprocated. He was scared Tomura wouldn't like him anymore if he revealed the truth.
Yet, what Dabi doesn't know, is that he and Magne aren't the only two trans members of the LOV. The night of his 24th birthday, he comes back to the empty hideout to come across a distressing scene. The hideout is empty apart from Tomura, and Dabi finds out the truth about him. Despite a painful beginning, the night ends in him having the best birthday of his entire life...

Dazai finds that this esoteric ward he does not acknowledge offers more surprises than creeping loneliness. When the body of a man washes up on his beach, it seems that fortune has offered him a hand in repairing a piece of himself he has come to tolerate through the eyes of someone who has no idea what it means to be a human.

i’m a big mythology buff, and this fic already peaked my interest thanks to a recommendation from tiktok that gave it 11/10 lmao, i am glad that it lived up to the hype.
the language used here is very eloquent without dipping into purple prose, and the dynamics, especially with Chuuya + Dazai are spot on. i used a reading app and there are MANY quotes that i have saved because genuinely, the words used here are beautiful. i also like how the story balances tragedy with funny moments.
there were moments that i thought a certain story beat would go in one direction but then it shocks me by revealing something else that it actually made me sit up from my seat lmao.
but really, this was such a captivating story, and, of course, trying to not give any spoilers away. but i especially love the reason why dove is the nickname Chuuya gets later.
all this to say this fanfic fucks hard
