Summary
Shane dropped his phone, not even watching as it clattered to the floor. This was happening. This was real. Hayden left behind Jackie. Jackie was a widow. Hayden’s kids were fatherless. Nothing will make me feel better for a long time. How was one to even move on? Suddenly, the definition of a long time changed for Shane into simply being forever.
He lay his head down on the kitchen island, his hot forehead connecting with the cool marble. What was there to say? What was there to do? His world was shattered. His best friend was gone. A husband, a father. Gone. Just like that. In just one night of sleep, Shane’s entire world crumbled.
Shane never wanted to sleep again.

Summary
This Christmas was going to be different. For the first time in years, Ilya wasn’t going to spend the holiday alone. Didn’t want to spend the holiday alone.
This year, he was going to pull into Shane’s cottage driveway and spend Christmas with him. Just him. Shane and Ilya. Ilya and Shane. Christmas. Together.
Ilya was so excited it scared him. Was so nervous it made his head dizzy. Had gotten so many gifts, he didn't know what to do with them all...Ilya tears the front of the gift box as Shane, not even being careful in his unwrapping this time, shreds the paper off the box. “Oh my fucking-” Shane starts as Ilya holds up his new t-shirt, laughing. “I have to put this on right now,” he gets up.
Shane can’t even process as he opens the box and reveals its contents. “Ilya, what the hell is this?” Shane reads the front of the box, dropping it into his lap. “You did not do this. Tell me you really did not do this.”Or
Shane and Ilya's first Christmas together, and both of them want it to be perfect.

“Fuck…” He says again, “Ilya, please tell me why Irina’s bag is covered in glitter? Then, please tell me why I am now covered in glitter?”
Ilya looks down at the bag, then up to Shane’s hands, which are thickly coated with the entire contents of shimmery rainbow glitter. “Seems simple. Irina wanted more sparkle. I obey our daughter. Is simple.”
“Ilya, we just got her this one! A week ago!” He runs his hand through his hair and then scowls again, “Damn it, this was supposed to be her clean one.”
“Okay, she has others, is not big deal.”----
Or, Shane and Ilya have to make sure everything is perfect for their daughter's first day of figure skating practice with her new team, but they both have different ideas of "perfect." -

Summary
After wielding the shield, Sam had been on a few missions here and there. But this one, this one is special. This one feels like a true Captain America mission. He hasn’t told Steve about it yet, but he knew he would. Steve has been all about hearing the missions, telling Sam after every story, “Gosh, I am so glad to be retired.” Sam always snorted because as if Steve could ever be still. The man was planting a huge garden and then filling all the flowerbeds with yellow roses, which he told Sam had been Bucky’s favorite.
But today, this mission would be one that Sam thinks he may need to force Steve to stay in retirement after he hears this story. Part of him considers not even telling Steve about it. Because seeing a blip on the radar placing an old Hydra base, not even Sam could believe that.
But he didn’t have time to reflect on this now. He has work to do. -

It’s like waking up from a nightmare. The way Steve’s breathing feels uneven, the way his body slightly shakes underneath all the covers. His mind is racing, thinking about every little detail he saw in his mind overnight, every little word that was uttered by the Fairy, by him. The way the colors vividly reflected a fairytale that Steve never wanted to leave. The way the Fairy presented himself to Steve with grace, as if he had known him for so long. The way Steve flew to another beautiful part of the forest, feeling the warm air through his hair.
If he falls asleep now, will he return to the forest? -

Steve smirks, going over and pressing up against the island next to where Bucky’s sitting. “How about we do this,” he says as Bucky looks up at him. “After you finish your sandwich, you take a quick shower and then peek into the small red bag on the bed. But, no looking until after you shower.”
Immediately, Bucky goes to get up from the stool but Steve stops him. “Finish eating, love, the bag isn’t going anywhere,” he chuckles.
Bucky nods, taking another bite. “Can I have a hint?”

Bucky is gearing up to go to this year's Pride Parade. Radiating energy as bright as the sun as he pulls on his swim trunks that have small rainbows all over them. “Is it obvious they’re swim trunks?” He asks, tying the purple strings into a bow.
Steve shakes his head, his eyes sweeping over Bucky’s torso. “You want any body paint?”
Bucky shrugs, looking in the mirror. As he reaches for his brush, he quickly glances at Steve. “What I do want is for you to come with me.” -

Summary
It’s moments like this that get under his skin the most. The way Steve can just… be Steve. Be dramatic and give Bucky the cold shoulder for simply caring. But Bucky was stronger. He could play Steve’s game. He wouldn’t cave, no. He would sit and wait for the silence to overwhelm Steve first.
