Summary
This is what his life has come to. He’s being disrespected by a dumpster rat.
He wishes he had someone to blame his current situation on, someone to direct his anger at, but in all honesty, the shitshow that landed him here was nothing more than an unfortunate series of entirely incidental accidents.
He knocks his head back into the wall behind him and huffs. Next to him, the rat chitters (sounding sympathetic, though Soap is beginning to think he might be projecting… or just losing it).
Or: Soap loses comms on a mission and is presumed dead. Having been left behind, he has no choice but to make his own way back to base. He doesn't expect to have been missed quite so much.

Summary
Soap makes a choked off noise of pure, unadulterated panic, and then he’s floating, drifting far away as his ears ring from the sound of multiple bombs going off.
When he comes to, he only gets to be happy that he’s somehow still alive for a moment, because everything hits him all at once. Pain explodes from every single part of him he can feel, and he wants to scream. He doesn’t, instead trying to take a deep breath to ground himself, but there’s rubble on top of him that’s unyielding, restricting his every breath.
His breath catches in his throat; focus, MacTavish. Assess your situation before you start panicking.
or, Soap gets trapped under the rubble of a collapsed building, and makes the (stupid) executive decision to omit that piece of information to the rest of 141. No one is happy about this when they find out.

Summary
Jaskier was half way through a lackluster rendition of one of his least popular songs when his world went static.
In his ears, a foreign heartbeat thundered, ragged and wounded. It felt as though his lungs had gone sideways with the sensation. Even the air itself tasted like it was charged with lightning, bright and bitter as ozone. Deep in his gut, he felt something urging himself forward, pulling him like some invisible string towards an unknown destination.
Something brushed across his senses, rough as tree bark, and sinking into his skin to crawl like ants beneath. He froze, eyes darting around the room like he could spot whoever it was that had sent his senses scrambling against the hard earned shields he was always careful to maintain. In his hands, his fingers faltered, melody disappearing beneath the wave of wrong that felt like it was choking him.
The answer was simple--and impossible.
There was a Sentinel here.

“I tutor a kid near here,” he tells Eskel as he watches the florist trim the thorns off some David Austen roses. “He’s a menace, but his mom wants him to learn piano and is willing to pay for all the grey hairs I’m getting.”
“You play piano?”
“And a few other instruments. My favorite is the lute.”
Eskel grins a little. “A lute? Do you moonlight as a bard too?”

Summary
It's a silly, silly thing, to keep the first coin Geralt gave him.
It's a foolish, sentimental show of whimsy to hold onto a bit of metal that the witcher likely forgot about the second it left his hand.
There's no point in keeping it. None at all. It would be absurd to hold onto it when it could be better spent on ale or bread or doublets.
Jaskier sews it a special pocket in his bag.
(Jaskier's life changed the day Geralt left him that coin. How could he NOT keep it?)

Summary
Supper secured and stuffed away in his trousers, he looks up to find the silver-haired stranger in the corner, the one person who hadn’t heckled him. The man is objectively gorgeous, with fascinating hair and a body that makes Jaskier’s mouth water a little.
Oh yes, he decides quickly, he will be climbing this stranger like a tree.
He’s a little wrong-footed when he works out that the stranger is a witcher with big scary swords Jaskier’s heard horror stories about, but after a quick moment of thought, he also thinks about how very many things the fae elders have been wrong about all his life and decides to ignore them once again. The witcher–Geralt of supposedly Rivia, even though Jaskier can tell from his accent that that’s a lie–tries to get rid of him, but Jaskier is nothing if he’s not determined, and he’s simply too damn interested to get scared off easily.
The witcher has clearly not realized that Jaskier is something to be hunted, and Jaskier, well, he’s never excelled at silly things like self-preservation.

“Talk to me,” Geralt says, voice as even and patient as ever. The lack of snap makes Jaskier feel slightly better, but he still can’t help but feel like a failure. If he’s good at anything, he’s good at fucking, but it seems he’s managed to ruin that already between them.
“Sorry,” Jaskier says, which only makes Geralt frown more. Jaskier hastens to explain. “If you tell me how you like it, I can do better.” He tries to give Geralt a roguish grin, but the witcher doesn’t return it.
“You were nervous,” Geralt says, and Jaskier feels heat prickle along his cheeks and ears. How fucking humiliating, to have a partner who can sense him reacting like some green lad shyly taking himself out for his first assignation. “What was it?”
(Jaskier is used to ignoring his own limits in order to please his partners) (Geralt has some thoughts and feelings about this)
