Bruce had intended to head to the cave, suit up, and patrol his feelings away. He knew that Dick hated him right now. He resented him for being alive, for getting to care for him when his own parents couldn’t— he knew the feeling well, and he couldn’t fault him for it.

Summary
It started with a rough patrol, too little sleep, and words he hadn’t meant that were spoken in a fight.
“I would have been fine. I didn’t need you! There was no reason for you to step in!” Bruce needed this thick-headed little monster to listen just this once because he wasn’t going to watch this kid get himself killed. Dick’s death would fall on him.
“I’m not going to apologize for saving your life B! You say you didn’t need me, but you did! We’re a team!” The boy was red-faced as he shouted.

Bruce makes a mistake and drives Dick away. He searches Gotham for the kid, hoping he reaches him before someone else takes him.
