This is an event like in the Squid Game series & both, Hannibal and Will, are involved. But it's not in Korea, this is an US version of the race.
There are not direct Squid Game spoilers but it's using the setting (rules etc) and my own HC inspired by something that happened in canon. Generally it's probably better if you saw SG before reading, but not necessary.

AU where Hannibal & Will were good friends for years but Hannibal never told him he actually fell in love. Then one day Will died because of the encephalitis. And Hannibal couldn't just let him go under the ground without doing what he didn't do in the previous years. So he keeps the body and plans a very special evening for them both. He still sees Will as if he was alive and there's time before decomposition ruins the illusion. He wants to use all of it to the fullest...

AU where Will is a young deer that Hannibal once found abandoned in the forest. He took care of Will, named him and decided to keep him. Although Will is getting older, he never wanted to leave Hannibal, despite being free to do so. He always returns back home after their walks in the forest. And Hannibal realized he's happy about that. He actually fell in love with the deer, and for a while now wanted to do something that other humans would not understand but he knows his Will feels the same.

Summary
Hannibal watched the players run; he enjoyed the voyeuristic pleasure that God surely felt as He saw his own creation run like desperate ants with no nest to come back for refuge. Little ants breaking formation and running over each other to escape from the deathly ray of heat and light of the magnifying glass that God held over their little ant heads.
Hannibal couldn't control his own amused smile, his own eagerness to start the first game. There were so much canon folder, so many interesting ants to watch. And of course, the cherry on top.

Summary
