Summary
Vanessa Afton was a lonely young woman, and she took solemn playing the part of Vanessa ‘Shelly’, the cheerful and helpful cop who was always willing to assist the community of Granite Falls in any way she could. She didn’t expect, however, that someone she chose to shelter during a storm could mess up with her head so deeply.
‘Maxine’, or simply Max, as she preferred, hasn’t felt a real and reciprocated connection in a long time, not by her friends, certainly not by her rather unstable brother, and most definitely not by any crush she has had or still held. She didn’t expect, however, that someone would choose to help a girl like her, and definitely not a very good looking blonde cop.
But they are acquaintances. Maybe friends. Maybe good friends…

A sequence of events leads to Vanessa being saved, sibling relationships healed, Charlie being put to rest, and awesome sauce JereMichael.
