Summary
Ten years ago, Melanie was taken from Erudite, vanished without a trace, and forced to survive in isolation. Now, she’s finally been found — along with her young son, Bailey — and thrust into a world she barely remembers.
Dauntless offers her safety, but freedom feels fragile. Every shadow makes her flinch, every step forward tests her courage, and every kind word is met with suspicion. Melanie must navigate this new life, protect her son, and learn to trust again — even as one sharp-eyed warrior watches her more closely than anyone should.
In a world of fear, control, and bravery, Melanie discovers that the strongest courage is the one that opens your heart.

Summary
Buck’s life has always been about saving others—but he’s never had to save his own heart. When Abby Clark enters his life, he finds a quiet, grounding love he never expected. But life doesn’t make things easy: Abby’s illness forces Buck into a role he’s never had before—caregiver, anchor, witness to loss. In 147 days, he learns the depth of love, the weight of grief, and the courage it takes to stay when letting go feels impossible.
And when Abby is gone, Buck must navigate the long, difficult path through mourning before he can allow himself to live and love again. It’s on that journey that he finds Eddie—a chance at hope, laughter, and connection, and maybe, finally, the chance to let someone in without fear.

Summary
Buck looks up from his desk, a polite, friendly smile already professionally-plastered on his face, and there he is — unmistakably, undeniably: Texas. Texas, who is apparently Christopher’s dad.
Or, Buck is a teacher. Naturally, his favorite student's dad is also the hot guy he matched with on Grindr. Perfect.

Summary
“What can I get you?” Buck asks, wiping a spill on the counter, before flicking the rag back into the sink.
When there’s no immediate answer, he glances up, and finds himself staring straight into a pair of big brown eyes that look equal parts startled and lost.
Or; Buck’s a bartender at a gay bar, and Eddie’s recently out and blushes far too easily.
Buck makes him a drink that matches the pretty pink colour of his cheeks.

Summary
“Yeah, about that.” Harry interrupted, and May sighed. So much for subtlety, she supposed. “You and Eddie.”
“Are best friends.” He answered, with the finality of a conversation finished.
Buck might be used to being the annoying little brother, and May might be used to being the tired older sister, but Harry was ready in a way May had to find a little funny.
“I was going to say super gay.” Harry answered casually.
Buck sputtered. “I’m bisexual and you know I’m bisexual.”
“Okay and what’s his excuse?”

Harry and May take it upon themselves to use their weekly Bachelor nights to parent trap Buck and Eddie.

Naively, he thinks he might be safe. But right there, smack bang in the middle of the classroom display, is Christopher’s story. Proudly titled: When My Dads Got Married.

Buck’s soul leaves his body.
Or, Buck joins his good friend Eddie at his son's Parents' Night. Platonically. With his good pal, Eddie.

Summary
“I’m tired of settling for people who just tolerate me. I want the next person I’m with to like me for exactly who I am. I feel like I deserve that, you know?”
Buck tilts his head to meet Eddie’s eyes, and there’s a soft, uncertain sort of vulnerability in his eyes. Eddie holds his gaze—finds he can’t look away as the moment swells slowly between them like a bubble, iridescent with possibility, something vague yet essential hovering just around the edges.
“You do deserve that,” Eddie says at last, his voice a little unsteady.
or: Buck’s dates keep finding things wrong with him. But Buck’s red flags are all green to Eddie.
