Kageyama's human body seized with what he could now name as 'fear'. His muscles tensed, his heart hammered against his ribs. Caught. He'd been caught already.
The man eyed him for a moment before erupting into light, melodic laughter that seemed to fill the warm cabin. "I'm just messing with you," he said, a teasing grin on his face as he pushed and pulled some knobs. The car rumbled to life, and the world outside began to move. "I'm sure you must've had a rough night. Drinking and all..."
Drinking?
Ah. This human must think he had inebriated himself, hence his pitiful state. It was a far better cover than admitting he was a Celestial being.
"Yes," Kageyama affirmed with a stammer. "I am very inebriated."

"You sure did!" Bokuto bellowed, pounding the steering wheel, tears streaming down his face.
Hinata’s laughter rose, then fell, his chest heaving as the car sped down the rural roads, the glittering house shrinking behind them. But as the car veered back toward civilization, the air grew colder. Hinata’s laughter softened, then died away, the night air sobering him.

Summary
A henchman falling in love with their supervillain was not unheard of.
In fact, it was a common phenomenon.Even encouraged by the many great villains.
What better way to ensure undying loyalty from an otherwise disposable, nameless employee?
When Hinata Shoyo finally achieved his lifelong dream of becoming a henchman he expected a lot. He envisioned explosions, death-defying battles and epic monologues.
He never expected to become the poster child for pathetic, pining loyalty.
But here he was—- loudly suffering from said common phenomenon.
Hinata was completely, utterly, and inconveniently in love with his supervillain.

“And stop calling me that!” Kageyama snarled, turning on his heel to stalk back to his sanctum. As he left, the echo of conversation followed him down the hall.
“Man, that was so cool!” he heard Noya whisper.
“I know! Next time, maybe if I reroute the power through the cooling system…”
It took every ounce of Kageyama’s formidable willpower not to turn around and throw his so-called henchman off the nearest balcony.

"Hinata."
It was just one word, calling for his name. It was calm and simple, yet it successfully made Shoyo and his friends shudder because of how calm it was. He could feel the gazes of their friends slowly shift to him as he turned his head to face the one who called him who was undoubtedly, Kageyama.
"Yes?" he replied with an innocent smile.
"Come with me."
Shoyo cheered internally. He knew that tone. He was sure the blue-eyed setter was now feeling annoyed. His plan was almost success, almost. All Kageyama needed was a little push, a little boost so Shoyo could get what he always wanted. So he tilted his head in the most innocent way and asked, "Why should I?"
For almost two years, Kageyama and Hinata had been pining for each other, yet they still hadn't stepped out of their friends-with-benefit zone. Shoyo decided it was enough, he needed Kageyama to step up his game, or else.

Kageyama honest-to-god smiled. Not just a competitive smirk or a feigned grin for a photo op-- but an open, genuine smile. Diego nearly dropped his water bottle.
And if the smile wasn’t shocking enough, Diego noticed something as Kageyama pulled off his practice shirt; a thin black cord looping around his neck, starkly contrasting against pale skin. Which was surprising enough (he didn’t peg Kageyama as the jewelry type), but what hung from the bottom of the necklace stopped Diego in his tracks.
There, dangling from the cord, light catching on its smooth surface, was a ring.
A fucking gold ring.
