Summary
The days leading up to Langa’s 17th birthday should be exciting. He should be filled with a growing joy and happiness at the prospect of celebrating a day all about him. He’s getting older, one step closer to being an adult. He’s made it through yet another year, and while he didn’t come out unscathed, he did come out whole.
Langa should be excited, should be happy, should be giddy, should be a lot of things.
Instead of any of that, all Langa feels is dread.

“What are you two up to? Snowboarding videos again?”
Cici looked expectantly at Langa’s phone, but Langa had already turned the video off and put it in his back pocket. After it buzzed again though he took it out, silencing it with another quiet, wistful sigh. Langa stared down at the darkened screen, his small sad frown reflected back at him.
“What’s with that sigh?” Cici teased, a wide grin on her face. “You texting a cute girl?”
“No.”
“Cute guy then?” Cici pressed.
But to Henry's surprise, Langa actually grinned a bit, his eyes turning a little soft as he stared at his phone. “Yeah. My boyfriend.”
Henry’s eyes widened. Langa… has a boyfriend?
Or the one where Langa returns to Canada after a whirlwind summer in Okinawa. He came back with a new hobby and, even more surprising, a boyfriend. Which his friends aren't quite sure is real or not.
