"Oops," Phil giggled. "Is there a thing that people like and you don't?"

Phil takes in a slightly shakier breath than he had hoped for. He shakes his hand for a perfectly respectable amount of time. He is so fine right now. So fine and normal.

Phil wondered what kind of person painted all of the walls of their new shop black and how the rest of the shop would be decorated. Basically every surface of the shop was covered in moving boxes and Phil couldn’t quite figure out the vision of the space, he found himself assuming that whoever had moved in next to him was probably devastatingly cool, some kind of edgy hipster who Phil would have nothing in common with. Oh well, Phil thought, at least it’s not a Starbucks.
Throughout the rest of his evening, Phil kept catching himself imagining this painfully cool hipster and wishing that someone a little more like him had moved in next door. It would’ve been nice to meet someone down to earth, someone who Phil could spend time with, maybe order delivery and play video games with. Maybe even someone Phil could go on a date with…

What if Dan was a tattoo artist opening his first independent shop next door to a gorgeous floral shop owner? And what if they fell into fast and hard?

Dan and Phil had incredible YouTube careers and had toured around the world, Dan had successfully raised his daughter despite having her so young, was still best friends with his daughter's mother even though they were no longer in a relationship, Phil also had wonderful relationships with them both, and now...Dan was engaged. To a woman named Heather. Beautiful, charming, good with Dan's daughter, but something just...wasn't right. Or maybe that was just Phil's jealousy talking. The day of the wedding though, Phil is approached by Dan's daughter with a secret about Dan, and as a result, there's a pretty good chance that everything is going to start falling apart. Luckily...Phil is a pretty good confidant.

When he played MarioKart alone on his couch. When he was making his morning coffee and instinctively reached for that second mug. When he was out in public and caught a glimpse of a tall bony frame with a head of dyed black hair.

Dan Howell quit YouTube after he broke the heart of the first boy he ever loved. That was thirteen years ago. After a lot of struggling (and a lot of therapy) he is now a well known mental health podcaster. When he is suddenly thrown back together with Phil Lester, he can't bring himself to stay out of his orbit. And it seems like maybe, just maybe, Phil doesn't want him to.
