"I'm sorry, Damian. I'm so sorry," he sobs, and when Damian reaches one of those small, thin hands up towards him he ducks down and carefully curls his hand beneath Damian's head and neck, hides his tears in Damian's messy hair. He can feel the boy's tiny form shake with weak sobs beneath him, and he wishes he could fix this. But he'd never been good at that when his pain-in-the-ass of a family were still alive, and unsurprisingly, he's not gotten any better at it now that they're dead.
