Maria Hill, or more widely known as Captain Jack Hill, a woman who disguised herself as a man to fight in a war that was anything but civil. Born in 1840 and orphaned young, she is now 30 years old and has gone west, doing any kind of work to get by until she comes across a town in dire need of a younger sheriff.
Natasha Romanoff is the owner and operator of a saloon and brothel in the west of America when it was still full of danger and adventure. Of course, it’s never as simple as that. Natasha, who goes by Natalie Rushman since moving to America, is hiding a dark secret. Born in 1843 in Russia, she immigrated to America in 1865, right after the end of the Civil War.

Bright lights smear across wet pavement, neon and golden, shifting like oil over the restless tide of the city. The air hums—horns, heels against concrete, the low murmur of lives brushing past one another without colliding. A place where movement never ceases, where time bends itself around the glow of diner signs and the hollow rush of subway tunnels.
Korra moves through it like a wildfire, restless and alive. She stops to watch breakdancers on the corner, tossing a few crumpled bills into an open guitar case. She laughs too loudly in quiet cafés, leans against countertops with a sheen of sweat still clinging to her skin, existing in a way that demands space.
Asami is polished edges and effortless grace, a world away even in the same city. Her steps are measured, heels clicking against marble lobbies, movements fluid as ink spilled over silk. She slides into sleek cars with tinted windows, untouched by the smog, the grime, the city’s frayed edges. There is always a distance between her and the world—a careful gap, an untouchable elegance.
They should never have met.
But then the elevator stops.
And everything changes.

Talking to strangers with white vans on the side of the road about her very personal, very recent lack of a job was crossing several lines of comfort. “Um - yes, somewhat. But I’m fine.”
Just as she was snatching up her helmet to flee, he rummaged around in a pocket of his frayed jeans for a moment, his tongue stuck out in concentration. Like a magician revealing a rabbit from his hat, with a flourish Bumi produced a small rectangle of paper. “Well, if you want a job, let me know. I’m looking for an all around handyman for a school. A private school.”
“Um.” He handed her the business card, one end torn, the opposite end folded over. A mysterious brown stain nearly concealed the business name - Republic City Boarding School. “Thanks.”
