Summary
Philip Pirrup was optimistic. When he saw small swirls of color blooming on his skin at the age of 8, he knew as a positive he had a soulmate. He held firmly onto that belief even as deep bruises replaced the bright reds and blues of the drawings until any marks that were not his own disappeared completely. He knew, of course, that when your soulmate died, all of their prints disappear from your skin, but he refused to dwell on that thought. In fact, he was happy to see no bruises or cuts of his soulmate's on his skin. That meant that they were safe, wherever they were.
Damien Thorn didn’t believe in soulmates. He wasn’t sure he even had 1, being only half-human and all. His dad didn’t have a soulmate, so Damien couldn’t see how he could. He remembers being younger and drawing all over his arms and legs, hoping his soulmate would see it. That was back when he lived with his foster parents. The large pale scar running up his rib cage is a painful reminder of those people.

Pip could not say exactly why the dreams had started, nor when their sequence would end. All he knew was that one night when he was fifteen, after going to bed, he awoke in another place, a white palace, with a man lying next to him. Every night since he's been able to visit the same place and the same man. Hopefully, it would never end. But, a mysterious new man in South Park reminds him an awful lot of dream guy. Perhaps the waking world isn't really too bad. DIP.
