Or,
Kai wakes in the middle of nowhere, in a Ninjago he no longer belongs to. He has no sister, no family, and nothing but blood on his hands, violence on his tongue and memories of people who no longer know him.
He sets to work.~ ~ ~
The First Spinjitzu Master gives what Kai can only interpret as a look of pity. "It will be difficult, impossible even. And you will have to do it alone." His empty eyes bear into Kai from the shadows of his face. "Do you understand me, Master of Fire? No one will remember you. No one will know you. You will not exist to anyone." He pauses, and Kai startles to hear a thread of pure sorrow in his voice. "You will not exist to them."

She doesn't need to turn around to know her ten year old brother is already chasing after her.
She knows that no matter where she decides to go, her big brother will always follow after her.

He crosses his arms, wanting to intimidate the boy into answering his questions truthfully. “May I help you?”
“Oh,” he says, his eyes avoiding Kai’s dark gaze. “I’m not going to do anything to harm you.”
“You aren’t,” Kai interrupts harshly. “I’ll have to kick you out of my property if you don’t answer my question. Who are you?”
“A…” Lloyd gulps, and Kai silently applauds himself. Is this how intimidation tactics work? On young, vulnerable boys who might ask him permission to take his sister out on a date? “I’m here to talk to you about something you might be interested in?”

Summary
When Nya got taken all Kai wanted was to get her back. She didn't know that along the way she would learn to fight, pick up a team, become a ninja, adopt a dark lord in the making and find a new home among all this insanity. But she did.
Or a rewrite of Ninjago with Kai being a girl and hiding it with a slight spin of my own.
