James Potter is jaded after multiple rejections from Lily and worries over the looming war. Sirius and Remus, too wrapped up in each other and their new relationship to pay him much attention. Midnight strolls under his cloak put him in the path of the Slytherin's resident prince, Regulus Black. Repeatedly. While Regulus grapples with his own struggles with the Dark Lord, James finds escape and revelation in getting lost in the younger Black heir. He knew whatever they had was temporary an doomed, but he never thought he would fall in love. Nor how much it would hurt.

But right now, Sirius hovering like a shadow ahead of him, Remus noticed. And if he were completely honest with himself, he noticed Sirius every time.
Sirius inhaled like he could draw all of Remus up with it, take him back to the Potters in his lungs, and hugged him.
