“I see,” Captain says as he opens the bag to count the coins. Clione opens his mouth to tell him the exact amount, since he’s already counted them on his way to the Tang, but Captain freezes and Clione’s words get stuck in his throat.
“Captain?” he asks, trying and failing not to worry.
“It—it’s—” Captain stutters, and Clione’s head is already ringing in alarm because Captain never stutters, “this,” he finishes, holding up a single coin as he looks Clione in the eye. A tight smile sits on his lips, and it somehow seems to Clione that he’s only barely holding back a full grin.
Or, five times the Hearts get Law to smile, and one time they get him to laugh.

Kakyoin doesn't talk about waking up in the middle of the night, the headaches, frantically checking his forehead to make sure the flesh bud is really gone. And then lying back, unsatisfied, with a tickle in his skull and his heart pounding in his chest. What if Jotaro missed even a single cell and it's still there, inside him, what if Dio's controlling him even now, lulling them all into a false sense of safety before he commands Kakyoin to strike?
They don't talk about it. But he catches Polnareff idly scratching his own forehead, sometimes, and they lock eyes, and they know. Not a word exchanged. Not a word needed. They know. Their twin scars and shared past, on display for all to see.
