Derek was content with his lifestyle. He lived in a small studio apartment with enough space for himself and his work. His life was very monotonous as he worked on robotics and did online college on the side.
That all changed quickly when, suddenly, a strange green slime (obviously not from this planet) just decided to appear in his apartment one night. Things quickly escalated from there. It completely overhauled the way Derek's life was up until that point.
Then more aliens appeared in his life, and following that was him having to somehow ward off organizations that wanted to hunt his new friends down. Safe to say his life was a lot more interesting now.
or: Avery's a green slime alien freak and somehow lands himself on earth. Derek teaches him how to be human. Avery teaches Derek what it means to be sickeningly in love.
