“I know you think that way,” said the assassin, drawing himself closer.
Vetinari met his eyes once more. He had an empty, glassy look, but Downey could blame the second one on the rain. “You should have a similar line of thought, given your position,” he said.
“Oh, I do,” answered Downey, “I am simply aware that I can’t cater every aspect of my life around it.”
Downey finds Vetinari sulking in the rain and decides to talk him out of it.

Summary
Somewhere, in a room, a body stirs under the cover of blankets and an arm coiled around him. An arm pulling him close and making his breath warm.
“Vimes…” he murmurs softly, as the arm refuses to aid him in getting up, but rather clings to him and holds him into the embrace.
He loves the embrace, and doesn’t want to leave it, but the night is warm, and he might just dare open the window.

After an unpleasant encounter with a criminal who stole a magical book, Vimes finds himself trapped outside his body, in the form of a ghost. While Ridcully tries to fix the whole mess, he decides to stop sulking around and maybe go see what the patrician is doing.
To the surprise of no one, things don’t go as planned.

Summary
Ignoring problems and feelings is rarely the easiest way to go through life. While Vetinari has to deal with a city that wants to fall apart and with a new, horrible injury, Downey decides that he doesn’t want to die having never even lived.
Amongst all this, a strange, aquatic creature roams the streets of Ankh-Morpork and leaves a trail of blood behind itself.
