Summary
Typically, Loki wouldn’t mind indulging in playful distraction instead of working, especially when it involved Mobius. However, a distraction usually meant heading to the Automat for pie, not whatever this was. This was the kind of indulgence that could get them pruned.
But Mobius was right there, presenting himself as a distraction. It would be rude to turn him down. Not when the offer was this tempting.
Or, Loki becomes overwhelmed after so many failed loops and needs a break. Mobius offers him a distraction.

Summary
It's going to take Loki centuries to learn what needs to be done to fix the loom and save the TVA. It seems logical, then, to go back to well before the "Time Keepers" were in place and try and spend the time he wasn't reading or asking OB questions with Mobius. It's only when he gets there that Loki realizes how ill-thought-out that was, especially since Mobius seems to have a life that is not only comfortable but also doesn't need the God of Mischief peppering himself in. At least not in any way that isn't strictly professional.
Meanwhile, Mobius is trying his best to live a life on the Time Line, to really take in what Loki gave up any sort of life to protect. But try as he might, Mobius can't help but dwell on what could have been, and is plagued by dreams that are starting to feel more like memories. Missions with Loki he'd never been on, conversations they never had.
The vaguest idea of a plan that may or may not be exactly what he and his friends need to bring the God of Stories back to them.
