"Mr. Hollander, with all due respect, there is a very clear difference here. No one is stopping you and Mr. Rozanov from doing whatever you want in your free time, but this is a workplace. Many players and fans feel uncomfortable watching that kind of behaviour-"

"Then they can close their eyes," Shane interrupted in a very uncharacteristic manner.

OR: Shane has been the NHL golden boy for 11 seasons, but some people are simply begging for a verbal slapdown. The internet reacts.

"So you do what you can, you convince yourself you can be something you are not, and for a moment, you think it worked, that you can be normal."

Hits a little too close to home but damn written so fucking well.

    Summary

"Oh, it looks like you’re doing better! With those scores, I guess we won’t have to meet as often anymore." Shane was beaming, proudly looking down at the transcript. Ilya’s smile immediately dropped.

Needless to say, he scored 20 points lower on the next midterm.

In which popular hockey fuckboy Ilya Rozanov falls madly in love with the university's golden boy Shane Hollander. Somehow, they go from being the talk on campus to becoming that couple.

Alternatively, my take on the Jock!Ilya x Nerd!Shane trope bc it is desperately underrepresented.

“With all my heart, Shane. I know no one thinks I am good enough for you, because I am not, but I try. I want to be. I stopped smoking and I go to bed early. I stopped sleeping with other people weeks ago because I could not stop thinking about your beautiful freckles no matter whose pretty face I looked into. And I know it was stupid to keep throwing parties hoping you’d come because you do not like crowds or hockey players, but I wanted you in my house and to show you a good time. I wanted to get to know you more and dance and maybe take you to my room to show off my trophies. And I wanted you to stay the night and make you pancakes in the morning even if my stupid roommates would have made fun of me for it. I want you, Hollander. You are all I can think about, it’s probably why my grades are still shit even though you are very good tutor,”

Amazing. Beautiful. Cried during my night shift. 10/10

    Summary

Ilya Rozanov built his tech empire from nothing, but the CEO who always wins is suddenly losing the one fight that matters—custody of his six-year-old niece, Alexandra. A strict judge, hostile old-money grandparents, and a brutal legal brief all paint him as too busy to be the parent she needs.

Shane Hollander, the NHL’s first openly omega captain, has spent his entire career proving he belongs. At thirty-two, with contract negotiations looming and a franchise in quiet turmoil, he’s one bad headline away from having his legacy written for him.

They come from two different worlds—until a chance meeting on a Cape Cod beach leads to a marriage of convenience. Shane offers the stable two-parent home the court wants. Ilya will use his connections to the incoming Voyageurs ownership group, and his considerable influence to make sure Shane walks into contract negotiations as something other than a question mark.

Everyone gets what they need. Shane gets to keep his contract. Ilya gets to keep his niece. And absolutely no one will fall in love.

    Really.

“They need to return to a conference based system,” Svetlana said, slamming her hand against the table. “It was fucking fine the way it was, why are we handing out participation trophies to shitty divisions?”

Ilya raised his eyebrows from where he hovered in the kitchen, cracking open another Red Bull.

“This is fun,” he said, deadpanned. “You guys should start a podcast or something. I would not listen, you are both terribly boring.”

Or, after an injury on the ice forces Shane into an early retirement, he and Svetlana start a podcast.

"“Do I actually get this money?” Troy asked.

    “No.”"

10/10. Amazing. Funny. The "Does Ilya Rozanov Owe You Money?" segments give me life. Definitely worth the read.

    Summary

“We’ve made a trade,” Coach announces. “For Shane Hollander.”

It’s like the ground drops out from beneath Ilya, and his heart falls from his chest. It tumbles past rock bottom, down to the cavern that shattered open inside of him on that night five years ago. The night when Ilya walked away from Hollander for the last time.

    He can’t breathe.

(Or: Shane doesn’t get hurt, they break up, and they don’t talk for five long years. Until Shane is traded to Ottawa.)

    Bookmarker's Notes

    One word: perfection.

OMG, the longing, the pining, Ilya who never stopped loving Shane and broke his own heart to make sure he didn't destroy it all, Shane who loved Ilya back all that time. The Centaurs being supportive, being one big family. Ugh, 100/10.
