He wished he could leave the Jingshi, but he was the Yiling Laozu. He was public enemy number one. Especially after what happened to—to the Peacock. People were already terrified of him and accused him of all kinds of things he hadn't done. But add to that something he actually had done? Attacked the cultivation chief's son with his Ghost General and left him gravely injured and comatose? Even if it was an accident, he couldn't exactly walk around and expect people not to panic or try to take him out. It wasn't safe to leave this house.

In their youth Wei Wuxian had always held a certain… fondness for the other alpha. But as they grew older, Lan Wangji's distaste for Wei Wuxian only seemed to grow stronger. Which is probably to be expected. Alphas rarely managed to stay friends into adulthood. They were too territorial and hot headed for that. Lan Wangji had barely even tolerated Wei Wuxian before. Summary
Ever since he had returned from the massacre at Nightless City, ever since he accepted 33 lashes from the discipline whip as punishment, he has had these dreams.
Maybe the dreams are a side effect of the pain he is suffering. Maybe they are caused by seeing the entire cultivation world cry out for Wei Ying's blood. Maybe it's from seeing how frail and broken he seemed when they hid in the cave afterwards. Maybe the dreams are clairvoyant in nature, warning of the future to come.
Regardless, every night he dreams of Wei Ying's death.
