“The tasks.” Greg’s brow furrowed but Alex barrelled onward before he could interrupt. “No one would be willing to risk humiliation for my judgement. But they might for yours. You are a new lord, a novelty that they will already wish to impress, and far more importantly, you have a certain authority that I lack.”
“I am barely even a real lord—” Greg started, but Alex cut him off before he could even get the full argument out.
“That does not matter. It’s not about actual authority, it is a matter of perceived authority.”
