Galadriel stepped across the mud filled ditch as the woods seemed to close around her in the growing darkness.
“Huan!” She cried fruitlessly into the murky evening in this tangled fen of trees. She had never been this far off the paths before and saw no familiar signs.
Damn that hound, running from me.
She slung her musket back around her shoulder and rested her hand on the reassuring hilt of her brother’s dagger in her belt and pressed on. The forest was full of ancient trees whose moss covered roots twisted around and intertwined with each other around the trunks creating a maze of obstacles she was forced to climb over or slip under. Every gully was full of brambles which pricked her skin though her padded woolen clothing.

“What is it going to take?” she asked, frustrated by his flat refusal. There was no reason for either of them to remain. Keeping him distracted in this manner was a very temporary solution, and continuing this charade would cost her more than it would cost him in the end, if she was too tired to fight come the morning.
“Give me tonight,” he bid her, soft and pleading, and clenched a handful of her gown in his fist, dragging it higher up her legs. “One night with you.”
