This one is a trainwreck of emotions. I haven't cried reading a fic in a long time, and I feel raw, and exposed, and ugly, and devastated. This fic is "Alone On The Water" sad, only with a glimmer of potential hope on the very distant horizon. And since hope is one of the worst things in the world, it makes it that much more gutting.
Do not read this. Though, it is beautiful. It will kill you. You have been warned.

He'd thought he was still small enough that it could support him, but the second he'd grabbed hold of it to pull himself up, the branch snapped, and down he went, plummeting a solid twenty metres.

OH MY GOD. THIS FIC. *SOBBING* SilentAuror is one of those authors I am subscribed to, and every time I see an update emailed to my inbox I squeal in delight. I did the same for this, and while I usually always love everything this author writes, this one was just wow!!! The pain, and sadness, and angst, and just the emotion in this one. God. Sherlock is gutting. Ugh. Beautiful. Can't recommend enough. Read it.
