Summary
Patrick has been a perfectly fine scapegoat for as long as he didn’t have to look him in the eyes—for Tashi, and thus, for Art, because he’d done enough fucked up things to keep the lie believable, to frontload blame, channel every bit of jealousy and self-righteousness and frustration he’s ever felt towards him and bury his memory into something warped, but they’re too close now to avoid the inevitable blow up. The buried truth.
The truth is, they’re each other’s inverse in that Patrick will betray others to prove to himself that he’s a scumbag, and Art will betray himself to feel less guilty about what he wants.
The truth is, Art knows repression first and second hand, literally, and he’s done good forgetting.
