Summary
“I leave for Seshat on Monday.”
That forces Aventurine's eyes to open a little wider. He'd known the doctor was ultimately going to accept, but he'd still always imagined being memorable enough of a companion to warrant a little heads up. Even a text, a short one that just read, "I accepted." That would've been enough for Aventurine.
“Before you make any ridiculous assumptions, I have not accepted the position.”
Aventurine smiles. “Didn't say anything.”
“Your face did.”
“And here I thought you were a scholar, not a mind reader.”
Dr. Ratio is offered the position of a lifetime. Aventurine knows he’s going to take it—so, after years of wanting something he never planned on asking for, Aventurine decides there’s no harm in having it once before Ratio leaves.
He is wrong about several things.

Summary
"What do you want from me?" Aventurine snaps.
What does Ratio want from him? Ratio recalls an earlier thought. He wants the man.
"More than you're willing to give, it seems."
Aventurine sends Ratio looking for a file in his desk. Ratio finds his will instead—and, inside it, himself listed as a beneficiary. The money is the least interesting thing Aventurine has left him.

Summary
Aventurine thinks he is visiting Ratio’s home. Ratio thinks he is avoiding admitting he still has one.
By the end of the week, after a broken translator, too many relatives, and a homecoming years overdue, both of them have to revise the definition: home is not the planet, the house, or the family table.
It is the person who sees you and stays.

Summary
Every surface looks intentional, expensive, polished.
It appears the most out of place element happens to be Aventurine.
or,
Now here he sits, bandaged and cleaned by the very same entity that could claw and tear this entire facade to shreds.
“I much prefer my given name when in my chambers.” Ratio breathes the words in hot puffs of air against Aventurine’s cheek.
In which Aventurine lands himself on the losing end of a business transaction against an unfairly handsome, magically-adept wolf.

Summary
Ratio agrees to attend a masquerade ball for operational reasons only.
Then Aventurine makes him dance, flirts outrageously, drags him into a garden alcove, and somehow still expects him not to have notes.
