Summary
It wasn’t supposed to end up like this. Nancy is fairly certain that if you’d asked her what she’d be doing with her life two years ago, she wouldn’t have said living in a more than likely haunted crumbling gothic pile of rocks, trying to track down beloved pet ferret Chunky Velez, and pretending she’s got her shit together.
But the curse looms large over all of their heads and things become ever more deadly as more supernatural items come to light. As the crew fight to unravel the secrets the town is wrapped up in, and untangle Ace and Nancy from Temperance's curse, they'll all be tested to their limits and forced to reckon with the sins of the past.
An alternative Season 4 with spoilers for all four seasons throughout.

She yells back at him through the wall. “Next to the oven!”
It makes him a little sick, that he can't find his way around the kitchen of The Claw, of all places. He can practically see himself hunched over the sink: freshly twenty-one, gangling and latex-clad, living loose and aimless. Neck-deep in pleasant ennui. He thought he'd stay there forever, submerged in that soapy water. He thought he had all the time in the world.
“Why do you need the foil?” George shouts, louder than necessary.
Mid-season four, the Drew Crew gets high. Ace isn't supposed to be thinking about Nancy.

"It looks like you need a cleanser," Nancy jumped at the sound of Tristan's voice, which was much closer than expected given that she hadn't even seen him enter The Claw.
"Hi," she managed to get out, her voice a forced calm. "What are you doing here?"
"Just here to pick up some lunch.” Her stomach flipped at the grin on his face. She wasn't sure if she liked that reaction or not. Sure, she logically knew that getting over Ace was the best thing for her sanity, but a big piece of her was still clinging to Ace. Clinging to hope.
Even if he had told her they should date other people.or I kept saying “what if Nancy and Tristan fake date” and that turned into Nancy and Tristan teaming up against the supernatural.

“How are you doing…really?” Ryan asked.
“Not great, dad.” She leaned her head on his shoulder. “I saved Ace’s life by breaking the curse, but I completely abandoned my friends in the process. They’ve all moved on with their lives."
"Hmm," he acknowledged resting his head on hers.
"How is it that whenever I do the right thing…the hard thing…I always end up more alone then when I started?”
“Do you regret it?”
Nancy sighed. “No. I saved Ace’s life. Even if they never talk to me again, he is safe. That’s all that matters.”
“Then that is your answer. And I know your friends. You just need to give them some time. And yourself.” As he finished, he clicked off the television.
“Hey, I was watching that,” Nancy whined.
“Maybe instead of living like a vampire, you can go out and check on your friends. You know, instead of waiting on them to seek you out, you can do something to rebuild that connection. They’re your best friends. Just give them some time.”

“So, I’m Nancy Drew,” she reads out loud. “Apparently I’m a ‘problem solver’ and ‘have a good memory,’ and then it says ‘except for now’ in brackets.” She squints at the sheet of paper. “There’s something else there, but it’s been scribbled out.”
The man standing on her other side — the one with the flouncy hair and the green jacket with the white collar — leans in to look over her shoulder.
“Um, it looks like it says, ‘maybe dating Ace,’ with a question mark.”

The girl – woman – laughs dryly, tipping her head back. “I hate stuff like this.” She snorts at herself. “Poor little rich girl, amirite?”
Ace looks down at himself pointedly and shrugs. “I wouldn’t know.”
She laughs again, sweeter this time, and then looks surprised at herself, like she wasn’t aware she was capable of making such a noise. He finds it weirdly endearing.

And now she has to let him go - after she's grown to trust him and rely on him, going from needing him to wanting him near, this perfect balance between them when they work side by side, bouncing off on each other's ideas, complementing one another. She has to let him go now that she knows what it feels like to grow where she'd been planted, where he's rooting for her.
