Summary
It takes almost thirty minutes of listening to Maya rant about the latest instance of terrible writing on the Steel Samurai reboot for Phoenix to snap.
“But the worst part is the potential, Nick, the potential!! Those stupid network executives absolutely ruined what could have been—“
“Maya. Please, for the love of god, stop stalling.” Phoenix groans.
The line falls silent for a moment, and when Maya speaks again she sounds sheepish.
“It’s just…” She goes on, voice turning serious again. “You’re not gonna like this.”
Phoenix swallows, stomach suddenly twisting in knots.
“Who’s been accused of murder now?” He jokes weakly.
“It’s nothing like that…” Maya says. “It’s, um. Well.”
“Wh- hey, what is it? Is everyone okay?” Phoenix asks.
“Edgeworth has a boyfriend!” Maya blurts.
Phoenix blinks at the surface of his desk.
“Edgeworth. Has a boyfriend.” He repeats blankly.

Summary
So. So, he is innocent. So, he never killed his father. So, he was never the criminal he thought that he was.
But he punished himself for it anyway. He felt it, he was guilty, he was guilty for fifteen fucking years, and all for nothing. He has spent fifteen years hating himself for something that he never did. Hating himself so that he could convince himself that a man who hated him didn’t. Hating himself because a criminal wanted him to, because all he wanted was to be loved by the man who killed his father. What a joke.
And now, here he is. He sees the truth. And now all he can do is hate himself for allowing himself to be lied to, hate himself for his own self-deception, hate himself for being so weak and needy and such a fool. Hate himself for hating himself when he was never the one to blame.
It’s too late for him. It seems that hating himself has become the default response.

Summary
“In the case of State v. Wright, this court finds the defense… ahem, the defendant, Mr. Phoenix Wright, guilty!” The judge bangs his gavel. “This court is adjourned.”
Edgeworth watches the bailiffs step forward to cuff Wright and lead him away. He complies in silence, no crying or screaming or accusations hurled. Wright just turns his head and meets Edgeworth’s eyes as he’s escorted from the courtroom. Not angry, or accusing, or panicked, or shocked, or any of the typical responses Edgeworth gets when he secures his verdict. Wright looks like he’s searching for something in his face. Edgeworth swallows, unable to break his gaze.
The heavy courtroom doors do it for him, and just like that, he’s gone.

Summary
Edgeworth turns up the collar of his coat, shivering slightly. The wind has begun whipping up around him in the dwindling light. It’s only around five in the afternoon, but the sun is already beginning to sink.
Another reason to hate winter. Not that he’s in need of any more.
He’s studying the marker flags, trying to match the trampled blood splatter to what was described in the forensics report, when he hears a distant rumbling. He straightens up, alarmed, but knowing it’s likely nothing more than an airplane passing overhead.
But the sound grows louder, and the sky is clear. He turns around.
Snow is falling. A great tide of snow is crashing down the mountain.
Avalanche, he thinks faintly.

Summary
Most of Miles' decisions were well-thought out. They made sense. They were logical. Safe. The decision to stay in Phoenix's guest room while he worked on his dissertation, however, had been made entirely on a whim-- and no matter how he tried to keep it all together, it was going to drag him as far from his comfort zone as he'd ever been, whether he liked it or not.
Phoenix had been in love with Miles Edgeworth for years; what they had now was perfect, though, and he would never dream of asking for anything else. Even so, inviting the man into his home for an unknown period of time was bound to unearth some truths... could it really be that they were more on the same page than he'd ever thought possible?
