Summary
The NHL keeps a Central Registry of every team’s Emergency Backup Goaltender, or EBUG, an individual who must be prepared to play for either the home or visiting team should both goalies be taken out of commission. When the Registry was digitized in the mid 90’s a clerical error was made, and David Hollander has remained on file as Montreal’s EBUG. When Boston plays a preseason game in Montreal at the beginning of the 2017/2018 season, both of their goalies are taken out and David Hollander suddenly finds himself in the net in Boston black and yellow.

Ilya shakes his head, “No, we have plans.”
“No, we don’t,” Shane corrects.
“Yes, we do. I’m going to remind you how important patience is, and why pressing my buttons in public may be fun, but does come back to haunt you.” He watches Shane shiver.
“Oh… So I’ll tell him no. What do you need from me?”
So helpful, so sweet. It’s a distraction, he’s disarming Ilya. “Prep yourself, then pick out what you want for dinner tonight. You’re going to keep me warm tonight.”After his husband tests the limits a few too many times, Ilya decides his husband needs a lesson in patience, and not always getting what he wants.

“Oh, come on,” Cliff says, exasperated. “I know you and Shane are friends now, or whatever, since you started the charity -”
“Listen to this!” Connors interrupts. “‘#RobotShane would probably be a lot less stiff if he spent more of his off-time getting stiff.’”
Everyone laughs again, as if they’ve just heard a particularly hilarious joke, rather than a Youtube comment most likely written by a twelve-year-old.
“Do we think Shane even knows what sex is?” St-Simon snickers. “He probably just powers down in a corner in between games.”
