Decades after being crowned King, Thorin finally succumbs to Bilbo’s desires and returns to the warm hearth of Bag End with a heart full of love and a shining silver hair cuff. When all is settled, Thorin finds himself in the apprentice seat again--with a young Samwise Gamgee happy to teach him how to create the most Shire-wedding worthy bouquet for his soon-to-be husband.

Bilbo was humming a tune, flowers clutched in his hand. More and more of his Took relatives filtered in through the wide door of his smial, making him terribly nervous. His grandfather, the thain has traveled far to be here on his mother's funeral and was now sitting next to him at the head of the table, shaking hands eagerly. Lady Yavanna seemed to have had mercy on him, as nobody dared but to look at him for a few seconds and utter a 'Greetings young man'. He'd have burst into tears if anybody offered condolences or somesuch.

Summary
“No! Bilbo, stay….stay with me, stay focused on my voice.” Thorin said desperately, saying the words he’d heard healers say whenever a patient under their care was close to dying and they struggling to save them.
Bilbo tapped his hand, stroking it, or trying to, merely covering Thorin with blood.
“Don’t…worry. Everything….will be alright.” Bilbo's breath was coming in short stuttering gasps. “You’ll…be alright, I’ll be…alright. Kili…and Fili…it will all work well.”
When Bilbo jumps in front of Azog's sword to save Thorin, Thorin thinks the hobbit is lost to him. Little does he know that hobbits have a form of hibernation, called Winter Sleep, that can be triggered when they are severely injured.

Bilbo is the god of Springtime and Thorin is the Lord of the Dead. He knew it would never work between them, but then Bilbo always did manage to surprise him.
